About the AGS/GAS
Since establishment in 1967, the Art Gallery of Sudbury/Galerie d’art de Sudbury’s has served as a promoter of local, national and international artists and a gathering place for the development of Sudbury’s arts community. As the AGS/GAS enters into its fifth decade of operations, we have refined our focus to be a pillar for the arts and culture community in Northeastern Ontario thorough innovative programming and by opening up our outstanding permanent collection to create memorable experiences in art for all who visit or participate. Through our programming we aim to be destination attraction in Northern Ontario.
The gallery represents Northern Ontario’s significant historical contributions to the visual arts, and also represents a bright future for the cultural community. In the years ahead, the AGS/GAS aspires to build a new gallery space named after Group of Seven artist Franklin Carmichael, world-renowned for his portraits of our Northern Ontario landscape. The future Franklin Carmichael Art Centre will lead the way in arts and culture development for Northeastern Ontario and will be a key building block for the City of Greater Sudbury’s future plans.
The AGS/GAS recognizes the importance that arts and culture bring to the community. We are dedicated to developing pride in the culture and heritage of Sudbury, improving the social and economic well being of the community, and fostering innovation, collaboration and creativity amongst its citizens.
